Horses and man have had a special relationship for hundreds of years. From the horses ridden into battle by the Romans, to the horses pulling ploughs on farmland, to champion racehorses dashing to victory at Royal Ascot, horses are a huge part of man’s history. There are many different types of horse, all who have unique differences and have been bred over the years for different abilities. Here are a few of the most popular horse breeds.

American Quarter Horse – These good natured and docile horses are a firm favourite with riders, and especially suit more inexperienced riders who are just getting their first horse. Being calm and beautiful, they are one of the more popular breeds of horse.

Thoroughbred – Unlike the American Quarter Horse these are not suitable for beginners at all. Strong and powerful horses that will be found on the racetrack, it takes a lot of skill and experience to ride a thoroughbred.

Arabian – Arabian horses are strong and wilful but are perfect for endurance riding as they don’t give up easily. Perfectly suited to competitions, they are not huge horses and are light despite their incredible strength and stamina.

Andalusian – These smart horses are enjoyed by horse riders all over the world but are particularly good at dressage events. Their high intelligence and their good natures make them willing to learn as well as being able to perform the complicated tasks needed in a competition.
