Your central heating in your home helps you to be at a comfortable temperature when the outside temperature drops but of course it is important that it is working properly. If you find that your home is chilly despite the heating being on, or you go to switch the central heating on and find that it is not working, then here are some of the things that you should do…

Check the Electricity – Power cuts can be more common in the winter, and in particular if the weather has recently been stormy as it can damage the power supplies. The first thing to check if you find that your central heating isn’t working is the electricity in your home, as if this is off this also will mean that your boiler isn’t working.
Check the sockets and the trip switches too, as the power may have been interrupted and come back again, which may mean that it just needs to be reset.

Check Credit if you are on a Prepay Meter – Many people use a meter, where you pay for your gas in advance and then put it onto your meter. If you haven’t got credit on there the gas will stop working, so check this before you assume the boiler is broken!

Check the Pressure – One of the most common reasons for heating not working is that the boiler pressure is too low. It will show you on the gauge on your boiler where the pressure needs to be, so if it has dropped below this, it won’t work.

Check the Timer – If you have a timer setting for your heating, make sure that the settings are right and adjust them if necessary. If you have had a recent power cut, this may have reset the timer on the heating.

Get a Professional – If you have checked all of the above and the heating is still not working, then you should call a professional like this Cheltenham boiler repair company to come and have a look at the boiler and get your heating working again.
