Bristol’s best buildings

Bristol is one of the oldest and most established Cities in England. It can trace its history back some 500 years to its founding in 1542. Its location, at the top of the Severn Sea, now the Bristol Channel opened it up to the trade from the Atlantic. As it was so inland it proved a great base for shipping goods, including Slaves, into the Heart of England. This brought great wealth to the City and enabled it to have some fantastic buildings. It’s why the Builders Bristol based mogfordprescott.co.uk/builders-bristol/ offer excellent service.

Here are some of its best buildings.

  1. Ashton Court. Surrounded by landscape parks and gardens this is a fantastic grade 1 listed manor house that is painted a very noticeable yellow. It had a different architectural design added to it in the 15th century.
  2. Tyntesfield. A Gothic pile located just outside of the city limits. It’s an example of the Victorians’ love of the style. It’s been the setting of a ghost story in Doctor Who and was almost bought by Kylie Minogue until the National Trust convinced her to help them get it.

  1. Temple Gardens. Bristol’s own living tower, this architectural oddity started out life as  a church but was destroyed in the bombing of Bristol in World War 2. However its tower was already a bit off kilter but stayed up. There is a nice garden around it now.
