It is important to know the difference between prefabricated timber frames and stick built timber frames especially if you’re considering using either for your next construction project.

Stick built timber frame

Stick-built timber frames are literally constructed one stick at a moment on the construction site. Theoretically, a stick-built frame should contain all of the elements listed above and perform like any other timber frame.

Stick-built timber frame buildings are slow and inefficient because they are built on site and mostly by following practice and custom principles, rather than an engineered design.

Stick-built frames are not tested, so their performance in terms of energy efficiency, structural strength and fire resistance is unknown. Most self-build warranty providers, and lenders, do not like this method of timber framing.

Prefabricated timber frame

Modern timber frame constructions are constructed using off-site manufactured precision engineered panels that include most of the insulation and membranes needed to achieve the desired performance level. To find out more about Timber Frame Manufacturers, visit //merlintimberframe.co.uk/

Wall panels can be manufactured in a variety of sizes and shapes to fit the project. The majority of manufacturers make large panels to speed up construction and increase efficiency.

Offsite manufacturing at a factory ensures that quality is controlled. The panels can be tested for performance because they are manufactured to a predetermined design.
